I want to try to keep the schedule of posting at least once every two weeks. However, since I had to work 56 hours this week, it made it kind of hard to work on my Double Walker analysis. So, I figured I would post a mini-update to give readers an idea of where I’ll be going with this newsletter in the near future. That way I at least feel like I’m getting something done.
DOUBLE WALKER
It’s still coming. Like I said, it’s been hard to get much work done this past week. I have been working on it but not as much as I would like. I have pretty much everything written out that I want to say about it but it’s a confusing mess at the moment. I need a little more time to get my thoughts organized. Hopefully it’ll be published within the week.
This is one of my favorite recent graphic novels and I highly recommend anyone and everyone to check it out if they can. Trust me on this.
ARCHIE HORROR COMICS
I have a confession to make. I really love Archie Comics. It came as a shock to me as well when I first started reading them. It started out as boredom and curiosity but now I adore them. It’s just one of those comics that is able to make you forget about the stress of the world and get lost in their simple little stories.
What’s cool about that, is there is a whole slew of horror themed Archie comic books. I figured since a lot of the books that I will be covering here will be heavy in darker themes, this could be a fun post to break things up. I won’t be doing a separate post for each book, but it will instead be one big post giving an overview of the different Archie horror series.
OCCULTISM IN COMICS SERIES
This, however, will be a series that I will be publishing within the newsletter. I have always had an interest in occultism and lucky for me, so do a lot of comic book creators. I can’t tell you how many times I have caught myself reading a comic book and noticed an occult reference within it. This will not be a history of occultism in comics. Instead, each issue will focus on one individual subject. Meaning that one issue might be about one particular comic book series that has heavy occult themes within it, or another post might focus on the work of a particular creator that is known for having occultism within their works. This is a series I am very much looking forward to writing, though the research involved does have me a little stressed out.
ENIGMA
One of my favorite comic books of all time, Enigma, is getting a special Definitive Edition release coming out in November. I figure then will be as good of a time as any to cover it. I’m a little anxious about writing about it because I have loved this book for roughly 12 years now and I’m afraid I won’t be able to do it any justice. But I have to talk about it because it’s just so amazing.
NAMELESS
Grant Morrison is no stranger to all things spooky and scary and this book is probably his most disturbing. While I’m sure I’ll eventually be covering Morrison in my Occultism series, I feel this book deserves it’s own post. Somehow this book has the ability to be more terrifying each time you read it.
SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN
James Tynion IV has become one of the biggest names in horror comics and is now one of my favorite comic book writers working today. I figured I would talk about the series that introduced me to him and go into what made me fall in love with his writing.
These are just a handful of things I want to cover in The Lonely Goat Papers. There are so many more things I want to eventually write about as well but I see these things coming out sooner. But you never know, one thing I want to try to do is keep this project fresh for me. So, if I get the urge to cover something else before I get to any of these, then I will. But I promise that all the things listed above will be coming, hopefully sooner than later.
Like I said, work has been insane lately and I have spent the past several weeks putting in a lot of overtime. On top of that, Nicole and I are in the process of moving into a new apartment. Something we both are really excited about but believe me, the stress load has been heavy this past month.
Thank you to those of you who have been reading and please tell your friends about The Lonely Goat Papers. It may sound silly but knowing I have and I am getting subscribers really helps keep me motivated on working on this.
